La Lettre. Eugène Louis Gabriel Isabey (French, 1803-1886). Oil on panel.
In La Lettre, Isabey is both a painstaking dix-huitièmiste and a painter in love with love. Here, as in his other anecdotal scenes, Isabey creates a legacy for Monticelli, but with his unique blend of romantic subjects rendered with such realistic light and color effects.
